What should you grant to someone who wants to do business with you about one of your intellectual property rights? Most publishers want (and need) e-book rights around the world, and it makes sense to allow global distribution in e-book format. However, printed books are a completely different issue, and authors must be careful to grant the publisher only such rights as the publisher is able to meaningfully fulfill. In particular, small publishers who do not have a good distribution may not be able to sell or distribute books abroad. Evaluate land rights carefully to ensure that the clause you are granting is appropriate in the circumstances. .
